Description
Winter’s Snowman is recognized as one of the most cold hardy and heat tolerant of all Camellia surviving winters as far north as USDA Hardiness Zone 6a! Winter’s Snowman produces gorgeous, ruffled, semi-double to anemone-form white flowers with a tuft of bright yellow stamens or creamy mini-petals at the center. The flowers are produced in fall. Anemone-form and semi-double flowers may appear on the same plant at the same time. Its lustrous dark green foliage provides the perfect backdrop and contrast of color for the flowers. The truly stunning flowers and beautiful dark green foliage are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase or float just one flower in a bowl of water.
Landscape & Garden Uses
A taller growing Camellia with an upright, semi-columnar habit of growth to about 10 to 12 feet tall and 5 to 7 feet wide, Winter’s Snowman can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is especially nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundation plantings. As this camellia grows taller lower branches can be removed to form a highly attractive small evergreen tree that serves well as a colorful specimen in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to camellia gardens, white theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter where this variety in not reliably winter hardy north of USDA Zone 6a. Find Your Zone
Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.

I was not disappointed with the camellia plant that I received. The plant was sent as described (within 3-7 days) and it was healthy! I planted it after a week of receiving it and it is already setting out new red leaves that will eventually turn green. I am very satisfied with Wilson Bros. I will likely order from them again.———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

Wilson Bros did an excellent job! My plant came on time, packaged carefully. All I needed to do was to remove the package and to plant it. So far, it is doing well (see the image). I bought two of these last summer and, when they survived this past winter intact, bought four more this spring. It was nice to have flowers in November and December when everything else has gone dormant.——————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Wilson Bros Gardens is quickly becoming one of my favorite nursery websites, and is definitely going to be my go-to for camellias. As has been the case with every order I have gotten from this store so far, the plants came incredibly well packed and in excellent condition – not a single branch broken. I ordered the 3 gal. size and it was also larger than I was expecting, which is always a great surprise. I would definitely recommend this product and this business overall.———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! As usual, my order was superbly packed and arrived in great condition. This camellia is going in front by the birdbath to give feathered friends a spot to land. We are zone 6, and my three other cold hardy camellias from Wilson Brothers are doing great. This one blooms earlier which will be nice.———————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Just wanted to let you know that the other three Camellias you sent arrived this week . . . and they were packaged in THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, SHIPPING-SUCCESSFUL way I have ever seen! I am an industry professional (horticulturist and landscape designer) and I have been ordering plants through the mail for over 30 years. These were just BEAUTIFULLY prepped for shipping and they arrived without a single damaged leaf.

This was my second purchase from Wilson Bros.. Was so happy to find so many cold hardy camellias from one source. So I tested them out with my first order of one camellia. It arrived perfectly packed and beautiful with lots of buds! After that, I ordered many more varieties and have to say they were all of exceptionally good quality and larger than expected. Most had buds so my yard will have lots more color this winter and spring. Can’t wait to see all of them bloom. Customer service is excellent as well. Brent was very helpful answering all my questions. 5 stars on both the product and customer service. Will be buying much more from this excellent company in the future. Only one complaint: you have too many camellias to choose from…haha. Thanks! ————————– WBG Reply: Hi Sherri – Wow!…thanks so much for all your compliments and for taking the time to provide all your reviews on the camellias you purchased from us. We hope you enjoy them for years to come! Your compliments make everything we do even more worth the while. Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can do for you. We’re at your service! – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
